In India people believe in the theory of Karma.We deserve what we truly get.On one side there is a rosy picture which gives a image of doing good deeds and enjoying the good fruits in the future.Doing bad deeds and suffer for eternity.This is not very different to the western philosophy of heaven and hell.Torture and worship somehow went hand in hand.
