Noise

Is it possible to reduce the disturbance in our heads..
Does silence exist for ever...
Even the most enlightened beings would tell you that it is impossible to exist in bliss forever.Even if you leave all attachments and leave to Himalayas...
You will have noise...You struggles will come from within you..the external ones have disappeared....the internal struggle will start....
But how long do we continue this process of learning .
Is there a end??
Is death the end??
May be the answer lies in realization of the fact that disturbance is the natural state.Hunger, suffering, disease, doubts are common in this world..we can never escape them..We can always scale them down.Instead of suffering for mundane issues of life(like not having the latest brands of clothes) we suffer for humanity. We suffer when we see thousands die in useless wars ..we suffer when our neighbours die in hunger and in our minds we are happy...This suffering teaches us that we belong to bigger family. It allows us to take action, manifest our greatness and realize our own divinity.

Enlightement is the falling of the leaf
It happens for a second
You weep for the silence
Your heart drowns in joy
But it is gone
Just as it came
For a second lasts for an eternity
And infinity cannot be measured by a second...

I suspect enlightement teaches you that the pursuit of finding the meaning of life is in the very act of living it!

As you rightly said an enlightened soul instead of bugged with mundane isses will be bugged with higher issues like humanity which is again another kind of suffering. How different is it or better from any other kind of suffering?. I guess there is no escape from the noise ever!

higher or lower issues, detachment is the key. Then there are all the problems and all the issues to solve and all the things to do, but no attachment... that's the buddha's definition of enlightenment - end of suffering.

-----------

I love the Buddha's simple definition of enlightenment as "the end of suffering." There is nothing superhuman in that, is there? Of course, as a definition, it is incomplete. It only tells you what enlightenment is not: no suffering. But what's left when there is no more suffering? The Buddha is silent on that, and his silence implies that you'll have to find out for yourself. He uses a negative definition so that the mind cannot make it into something to believe in or into a superhuman accomplishment, a goal that is impossible for you to attain. Despite this precaution, the majority of Buddhists still believe that enlightenment is for the Buddha, not for them, at least not in this lifetime.

PS: though I'm not that much of an appreciator of poetry, found this one really beautiful.

To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.

PPS: one last point, please feel free to delete this comment... was reminded of an old post I'd written on dealing with noise pollution :)

we look for absence of noise as long as we believe in mind-body duality.
instantaneous peace can be achieved if we stop recting to baseless issues and develop a habit of smiling at small noises that we face daily.

Sharat,
I do believe there is change in the scale of suffering. Many enlightened souls have defined a state which is absence of suffering..But I dont know whether it exists or not...
